Now this is good PR

The other day I bought a new hard case and some other accessories from a small company called Proporta. Because my online order was slightly different they took the trouble to phone to check that it was right. When my goods arrived I emailed them simply to say thanks. They emailed me back to say thanks and ask if they could quote my email on their website.

Now why's this PR I can hear some of you asking. Isn't PR all about spin and media coverage. Well no that's only a small part of it. Really good PR is about doing the right thing and letting people know about it.

I'm more than happy for them to quote me because as a PR guru I regularly tell clients about the importance of third party endorsement, good case studies and testimonials.

So if you're looking for any sort of palm top/PDA type accessories then check out Proporta, a small British company doing things well. BTW they are not a client (although they are the sort I would like - I like to believe in my clients) and I have no connection with them other than being a satisified customer.

Hutton has his own web site

The Hutton Inquiry has its own website. So far it's not going to well for the BBC (something I predicted at the outset). I don't want to jump to early conclusions (just before I do!) but my instinct is that both the BBC and the government will be found to be somewhat at fault, but that the BBC should take most of the blame.

However, I also predict that regardless of this outcome the government will still take most of the flack. Most of the media has simply become too self-important and obsessed with setting the agenda rather than reporting and commentating on it. The Today programme is a rotten apple in a pretty sorry barrel. I believe the rot set in with  the previous editor Rod Liddle. You just had to read the absolute piffle he wrote in yesterday's Guardian attempting to defend Gilligan. It's little wonder Liddle dislikes spin so much, he's constantly spinning himself - but so badly you'd expect a first year undergraduate on a PR degree to do better!
