Local government PR - IDeA Connecting with Communities

The excellent IDeA Connecting with Communities website has been updated to include new material about internal communications, e-communications and communications for education departments.

Well worth a look for officers or councillors who want to improve how their authority communicates and consults. Remember that those authorities that are best at two-way communication tend to be those that get the best Audit Commission ratings. It isn't a coincidence.

Why you would want to work in PR

Good post
by Tom Murphy about why you would want a career in public relations.
One that I would probably add is that it is changing. It is becoming a
real PROFESSION.

The quality of education offered by universities is impressive (take a look at PR Studies and Mediations for just two examples of good PR blogs by UK academics).

The newly acquired Chartered status of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations is also important (not that the link is still ipr.org.uk as cipr.org.uk takes you somewhere else!).

London Olympic Victory

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. The Olympics are coming to London. Thanks to a fantastic job by the bid team Seb Coe, London Mayor Ken Livingstone and Prime Minister Tony Blair.

UPDATE: Cool, note how my 'Back the Bid' banner has automatically updated to 'Thank You'. Good use of internet campaigning.

Too Much Coffee Man: to-do list

Thanks to Lee Hopkins for this cartoon:

If you like it then head over to Shannon Wheeler's Too Much Coffee Man website and buy something!

While you're at it why not subscribe to Lee Hopkin's podcast which looks at business communications and psychology.
