Blog Elevator Pitch

Recently I've been talking to more and more people about the potential of blogs as a business or public sector communications tool. But if people aren't familiar with blogs (which most aren't) it can be hard to explain what they are, unless you're in front of a PC while explaining.

I've been trying to craft an elevator pitch to explain it and so was please when I spotted the 'Blog Elevator Speech' title in Feedreader. Kevin Dugan has posted his blog elevator pitch.

However, I don't think it works for my audiences. It's still way to complicated. For a start I couldn't possibly use the words 'aggregator' or 'RSS' as both would require an elevator pitch to explain what they are.

I'm going to keep working on it and will share my thoughts here. In the meantime if anyone wants to chime in I'd be very interested in your thoughts.

It's also still too long too in my opinion...but I think the point about amplifying the message still applies.

Sure, I can help.
I help people with Business Growth and we do alot of these 'pitches'.
Because 'blogs' and 'rss' etc are relatively new - if your market isn't very net savvy we'll need to 'keep it simple'.
A good way to start an elevator speech is...
"Do you know how..."
"Well what I do is..."
Eg...
"Do you know on talk back radio, the presenter talks on a topic, and then people call in to talk about it?...
Well what you can do it set up a website on the net that commmunicates to your target market and involves them in 'talking' back to you on the website.
It's a great way to get your message out there in real time, and have your market respond to you in 'real' time - from anywhere in the world - all they need is a computer"
With some more info, we can adjust it.

We just finished a little site last Friday, its to help people judge, view and even make their own pitch:

Only time will tell if the idea is successful, we are not looking for money, just just felt the same way about the pitch. Besides it gives new companies a small opportunity to test ideas out.
